BMT Asia Pacific nominated for two of the maritime industry's most prestigious awards for Singapore projects
12-Oct-2007
BMT Asia Pacific Pte Ltd today announced it has been short listed for two categories in the 2007 Lloyd's List Asia Awards, the pre-eminent awards for the maritime industry. With a proven track record in combining professional know-how with the innovative use of technology, BMT Asia Pacific was nominated for "The Clean Seas" Award and the "Innovation" Award.
"We are honoured and excited to be nominated for these awards and see this as a positive endorsement of the projects being undertaken by BMT Asia Pacific", said David Wignall, Managing Director, BMT Asia Pacific and Development Director, BMT Group. "As a company we are committed to innovation through our heritage of research and our extensive research and development capability. The shortlisting of two projects in one year demonstrates in a very real way our capabilities in delivering highly workable solutions to our clients".
The Clean Seas Award nomination was submitted for an ocean surveillance system where one of the client's key requirements was to implement a system which would pro-actively address issues of managing their environmental liability and corporate reputation. Utilising Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging, the resulting Oil Spill Ocean Surveillance service offers routine surveillance and analysis of a large sea area to capture proof of any oil pollution, determine the source and identify those responsible. Over a period of 24 months the system has been so successful that BMT's client has been able to cancel the helicopter surveillance of its subsea pipelines, benefit from significant cost savings by using the satellite surveillance services, reduce its fuel consumption and carbon emissions, thereby cutting down on air pollution and saving energy.
The Innovation Award nomination was for the world's first internet-based service targeting the provision of Met-Ocean information to the shipping industry within the Malacca and Singapore Straits. An online planning tool for ships, berths and terminals, STRAITSFORECAST provides high resolution forecast tidal current flow patterns, assisting ships in navigation through complex currents and terminals to establish safe berthing windows in strong tidal flows.
