Purposes

System Assurance (SA) has been widely adopted in the railway industry to assure systems engineering processes and products conform to systems requirements for operational safety, reliability, availability, maintainability, standards, procedures and regulations. A SA study serves the following purposes:

  • Rail _assurance _1Assure processes and products meet their specified requirements
  • identify and address areas having the potential to impact operational safety, reliability, availability, maintainability, or overall mission-assured success

Features

A professional System Assurance study can be applied in different stages of a Project:

  • Feasibility Study: To be used as one of the weighting factors for the selection of the preferred option for further study and design
  • Design & Configuration: To predict and assure the design can achieve the systems requirements / targets for operational safety, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM)
  • Construction & Installation:
    To establish whether the selected system / sub-system / equipment are likely to achieve the overall safety and RAM targets.
  • Testing & Commissioning: To undertake safety and RAM verification and validation to demonstrate that the installed systems have achieved the intended design functions / features
  • Defects Liability Period: To perform safety and RAM performance monitoring to ensure that the required level of safety and RAM is being achieved in service
