BMT Mourns the Tragic Loss of Kathleen Koh
15-Mar-2011
Kathleen Koh
It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of Kathleen Koh, Managing Director of BMT Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Kathleen suffered a stroke on Thursday, 3rd March 2011 and was subsequently rushed to hospital where she later died on Saturday, 5th March 2011. Our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time.
Kathleen's colleagues at BMT Asia Pacific are also mourning the loss of their much loved and respected friend.
Mel Davies, Regional Director, BMT Group and former MD at BMT Asia Pacific commented "Kathleen was still a young woman, in appearance, energy and enthusiasm and yet she has had a long career and a very full life. We will miss her greatly and will miss the many future achievements she would have accomplished."
Kathleen earned a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic and at 20 years of age began her career as a Site Supervisor at PSA's Tanjong Pagar Container Terminal, working for Wang Coo-Kien.
She went on to obtain a Master of Engineering Science degree specializing in Project Management and was planning to work on a PhD furthering her interest in the science of project management for marine civil engineering projects.
In her working life she learned the basics and built her foundation of knowledge working as a structural and design draughtswoman on steel structures, pipelines, buildings, apartment blocks and fly-overs.
By 30 years of age she had arrived firmly in the business area that she has made her own for the last 20 years and earned her the affectionate name of Madam Jetty. At this time she became Deputy Area Manager of Delta Marine; later she was Branch Manager for Mouchel Consulting in Singapore and finally at BMT Asia Pacific she moved from being General Manager to her recent promotion to Managing Director.
Kathleen was passionate about the things she did - at work, on the golf course, as a diver and in her personal and family life. She was passionate about passing on her experience and knowledge to others and she practiced this at home in the support she gave to her nieces and at work in the guidance she gave to those around her.
Kathleen leaves not just a record of achievement, but a legacy in the people she has touched and who are determined to follow her path and achieve even more.
