    Aidan Depetro, BMT Design & Technology has been recognised with the Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN) National Young Achiever Award for 2014.

    The award recognises outstanding individual contribution to Defence and Industry in Australia by young professionals under 30 years of age.

    BMT WBM Wins Place on Innovation Honours List

    BMT WBM has been recognised in the Business Review Weekly’s (BRW) list of Australia’s Most Innovative Companies 2013.

    At tenth spot on the list, BMT was recognised for its innovative efforts in pioneering a new era of computational flood analysis, and also for its innovative robotic wagon vibrator.

    Award winning manual leading the way in stormwater design

    The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) has been recognised as a leader in stormwater management, having recently received the prestigious Excellence in Policy and Education Award at the 2013 New South Wales Stormwater Industry Awards for its ‘Using MUSIC in Sydney’s Drinking Water Catchment’ manual.

    The manual was developed by the SCA and BMT WBM to help consultants use ‘MUSIC’ for larger, more complex urban and rural land use developments.

    Tony McAlister, Managing Director at BMT WBM said “We’re extremely proud to be duly recognised alongside the SCA for the development of the MUSIC modelling guidelines,” he said.

    Lady Gass Presents BMT with Queen's Award

    BMT Defence Services Ltd received a royal seal of approval at its offices in Bath, recognising the company’s outstanding performance in export growth and contribution to overseas trade.

    At an event hosted by Managing Director, Muir Macdonald, BMT was presented with the Queen’s Award for International Trade by Lady Gass, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset. “It truly is a great honour and proud moment for us to receive this prestigious business award.

    BMT Recognised for Excellence in Environmental Practice

    BMT WBM has been awarded the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ) top award for an environmental consulting practice.

    The award recognises BMT WBM’s leadership and innovation in environmental management, having contributed to the conservation and rehabilitation of some of Australia’s most significant and iconic wetlands, including Kakadu National Park, Caley Valley Wetlands and Hexham Swamp.

    BMT WBM and SkillPro Pick up Excellence Award

    BMT WBM and SkillPro Services Pty Ltd, have been recognised at the recent Australian Coal Association Research Program’s (ACARP) biennial awards ceremony for their ground breaking Active Barrier prototype system, which could play an integral role in enhancing the future safety of coal miners.

    The eight year project has seen a $1.6 million investment from ACARP, with the prototype successfully suppressing a series of coal dust explosions at a testing facility in South Africa. Using a flame detector to identify the approaching coal dust deflagration, the Active Barrier system successfully injected 120 litres of water within 250 milliseconds in order to suppress the explosion, as was predicted by BMT WBM’s computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling.

    BMT is awarded OHSAS Accreditation

    BMT Group has been awarded the internationally recognised standard for occupational health and safety management systems, BS OHSAS 18001, following a rigorous audit.

    Jayne Matthews, Manager of Operational Risk at BMT Group comments: "We are committed to ensuring that we have the necessary measures in place in order to keep our most important asset - our people, safe. This certification gives us the stepping stone to continued improvement and awareness of health and wellbeing in the working environment."

    A number of subsidiaries within the group have also recently achieved this accreditation including BMT Defence Services and BMT Cadence.

    Dr Ralph Rayner is awarded Society for Underwater Technology’s President’s Award

    Dr Ralph Rayner, Sector Director for Energy and Environment, BMT Group, has been awarded the Society for Underwater Technology's President's Award in recognition of his distinguished career in ocean science and technology and for his contribution to the development of the society.

    Ralph previously received the SUT Oceanography Award in 2006 and is a current SUT Council Member.

    In addition to his role with BMT, he is helping to advance the development of ocean science and technology globally, through his work on the Global Ocean Observing System, his role in support of the US integrated Ocean Observing System and his various positions on advisory bodies.

    Australian Stormwater Industry Association Awards

    The efforts of BMT WBM staff were recognised at the annual Stormwater Industry Association of Queensland Awards for Excellence in several categories.

    The "Moreton Bay Regional Council Total Water Cycle Management Strategy" was the winner in the "Excellence in Strategic Planning or Conceptual Design" category. The project identified water cycle management issues within the Moreton Bay region.

    The "Tygum Lagoon Rehabilitation Strategy" also picked up the 'Merit Award' in the "Excellence in Infrastructure" category. This project involved developing a strategy to restore and maintain the recreational and environmental values of a 9ha lagoon in Waterford (near Logan).

    Innovative Turbine Access System Wins Award

    Naval architecture and marine engineering design consultants, BMT Nigel Gee, have won both the Marine Renewables Category and overall Spirit of Innovation award for their Turbine Access System (TAS) at the 2011 Seawork International Innovations Showcase.

    The lightweight motion compensated gangway provides safe and reliable access from workboats onto turbine structures.

    Ed Dudson, Technical Director of BMT Nigel Gee, says: "I'm delighted that our joint development with Houlder Ltd and its innovative qualities have been formally recognised at a prestigious show."

    BMT Wins "Superyacht Design of the Future" Award

    Naval architecture and marine engineering design consultants, BMT Nigel Gee, celebrated award success at the Monaco Yacht Show for its avant-garde concept design, Project Utopia, developed in partnership with Yacht Island Design.

    The Superyacht Owners' Guide (SYOG) awards presented the "Superyacht Design of the Future" to BMT and Yacht Island Design.

    James Roy, Yacht Design Director at BMT Nigel Gee explains: "The origin of Utopia came from a client's brief which was to have 'a piece of floating real estate that could be moved between nice locations'."

    The Canadian Defence Review has once again chosen BMT Fleet Technology to appear in its Top 50 Defence Companies listing. Companies selected are ranked annually based on factors such as economic impact to the country, research & development initiatives, innovation, contribution to the nation's security, national and international contract wins, excellence of management and support of Canada's military.

    BMT picks up National Award for Planning Excellence

    BMT WBM has been recognised at the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) National Awards for Planning Excellence which took place in Melbourne last month.

    Working with its partners and client, BMT won the ‘best planning ideas – small project’ award category for their outstanding work in the Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Choiseul Bay Township, Solomon Islands. BMT previously won awards for the same project in the PIA Queensland state awards, automatically nominating them for the National Awards.

    BMT JFA Awarded Port Geographe Coastal Engineering Management Contract

    BMT JFA Consultants has been awarded a contract by the Western Australian Department of Transport (DoT) to provide services as Coastal Engineering Advisor for the Management of Beaches, Structures and Waterways at Port Geographe, Busselton.

    The contract will run for an initial two years with options to extend annually up to a total five year period.

    BMT Group Transitions to 2015 Accreditations

    BMT Group is delighted to announce that it has been successful in transitioning to the 2015 versions of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards well ahead of the required September 2018 deadline.

    This transition has been actioned well in advance so that we can take the lead in supporting operating companies through their transition processes.
    • The ISO9001 (Quality Management Standard) accreditation is a key part of the strategy to ensure good governance and focus on quality and efficiency of delivery to clients.
    • ISO14001 is the Environmental Management Standard. Group has a fully integrated management system addressing the quality, environment and H&S standards.

    The differences in the 2015 standards are in the areas of:
    • Establishing the context of the organisation – most organisations do this implicitly but it now needs to be formalised.
    • Risk management - we already have a BMT risk management culture but need to formalise further
    • Senior management accountability – the new standards stress that the most senior level of management must demonstrate accountability.
    • Structure - the standards have moved to a uniform structure making integration easier.

    BMT Group received its three-year re-certification in February. The company is further accredited to OHSAS18001.

    BMT Consolidates GSA Contracts under New PSS Schedule

    BMT Designers & Planners, Inc. (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, has received a Consolidated Professional Services Schedule (PSS) award from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). BMT is among the first group of companies to be granted this award, enabling Federal customers’ access to the firm’s complete range of services through a single contract, offering a more simplified acquisition vehicle and reducing complexity when requirements cross Special Item Number (SIN) boundaries.

    BMT Innovation Recognised in AWA Awards

    BMT WBM (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has announced that the Hawkesbury-Nepean River and South Creek model, developed for Sydney Water has been awarded the Program Innovation Award at this year’s Australian Water Association’s (AWA) New South Wales (NSW) Awards.

    BMT developed the TUFLOW FV (estuarine and riverine) component of the model, a core modelling tool which is used in many environmental modelling projects.

    The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 league table ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales. It is compiled by Fast Track and published in The Sunday Times each October, with an awards event in November, and alumni dinners during the year.
