Environmental Management, Marine and Coastal

The energy sector face increasing scrutiny for greater corporate responsibility and environmental issues top the agenda, creating both challenges and opportunites.

BMT’s scientists, engineers and ecologists routinely assist customers with solving complex environmental issues from concept to closure.

We provide a range of services in support of monitoring the marine environment, assessing environmental impacts and satisfying regulatory obligations for Oil & Gas activities, as well as for developments in offshore renewables.

Marine Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

BMT has many years of experience in preparing high quality Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Statements for offshore developments.

Our Oil and Gas experience includes assessments related to seismic surveys, drilling programs, new platforms, new pipelines, platform upgrades and modifications, subsea tie-backs, shore approaches and shoreline crossings, terminals and terminal modifications.

Coastal Environmental Assessment

BMT draws on advanced field measurement and data collection, numerical modelling and analysis, remote sensing capabilities and a detailed understanding of regional environmental processes to maximise safety and minimise environmental and economic impacts.

We study baseline water quality conditions, marine ecology, coastal processes and shoreline erosion to offer port planning impact assessments and specialist dredging management.

Our modelling and monitoring activities are underpinned by high quality technology and a deep understanding of physical, chemical and biological processes.

Statutory Compliance

Delivering documentation in support of statutory environmental compliance can be complex and requires specialist knowledge. BMT has completed numerous offshore statutory risk assessments and applications as well as providing comprehensive consultancy advice on environmental, legislative and compliance issues.

Environmental Monitoring

BMT helps customers navigate through an increasingly complex regulatory environment by appointing specialists in both policy and marine biology.

In recent years there has been increased concern for the effect of man-made noise pollution in the ocean, particularly upon cetaceans - which are known to be sensitive to sound.

BMT assists in guiding a sustainable approach to man-made activities. We supplement our deep knowledge of environmental policy with very specific services in marine biology. Our Marine Mammal Observers (MMO) are environmental consultants who specialise in whales and dolphins.

BMT’s scientists also are experienced in conducting marine environmental surveys including studies of water quality, atmospheric emissions and noise as well as the provision of habitat assessments in tropical and temperate waters.

Decommissioning Support

BMT has particular expertise in supporting the environmental needs of decommissioning activities. We have undertaken numerous environmental studies covering all aspects of this final project phase for a variety of oil and gas structures.
