Rail System Assurance and EMC

The international network of BMT rail experts are familiar with industrial and local requirements, providing bespoke solutions that suit the needs of customers worldwide.

System Assurance has been widely adopted in the railway industry to assure systems engineering processes and products conform to systems requirements for operational safety, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM), standards, procedures and regulations.

A System Assurance (SA) Study serves the following purposes:

  • Assure processes and products meet their specified requirements
  • Identify and address areas having the potential to impact operational RAM or overall mission-assured success
  • Satisfy stakeholder needs

SA studies contribute to various stages of a rail project, from feasibility and design, through to constructuion, testing and the defects liability period.

Electromagnetic Compatibility Review and Management

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) analysis assures that the various railway sub-systems remain compatible between themselves and the environment to prevent potentially hazardous errors and mis-operation.

BMT has a proven track record of leading EMC reviews and managmement. We assist customers in:

  • The development of an EMC Management Plan
  • Identification of potential EMI hazards within the premises
  • Assessing the EMC performance required for the design of the system, sub-system or equipment including all necessary control measures
  • Verification of EMC performance of individual equipment procured
  • Review of the overall design of the system / sub-system to ensure all EMC issues identified have been addressed

Additionally, BMT assists customers in identifying the tests that must be carried out in order to verify EMC performance. This aims to identify where, if any, performance flaws exist and form the basis for further control measures or design modifications.
