BMT provides expertise in green building project management and coordination, sustainable building planning and design, support on green building certification including BEAM and LEED, as well as related technical assessment and monitoring works.
Our assessment and modelling techniques for supporting sustainable building design include but are not limited to, Air Ventilation, Daylight and Overshadowing, Building Energy Simulation, Life Cycle Analysis/Assessment, Microclimate and Thermal Comfort, Acoustic Design and Vibration Control, CDF Modelling.
Air Ventilation
A number of BMT's experienced environmental consultants are specialised in assessing the impacts of building development on the local wind environment.
We apply sophisticated simulation techniques such as CFD (computation fluid dynamics, pictured right) and wind tunnel testing to provide a thorough analysis for the customer. We have a strong track record in providing Pedestrian Wind Environment Studies and Air Ventilation Assessments.
Daylight and Overshadowing
We conduct the following technical assessments to analyse overshadowing and lighting conditions for ext
erior and interior environments:
- Artificial Lighting
- Sun Shading Device
- Availability of Natural Lighting
- Light Pollution
- Glare Impact
Energy Simulation
We are able to analyse the energy efficiency of buildings and provide advice on building envelop and services systems for more energy-saving and cost-effective operations.
Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing Assessment (LCCA)
This involves reviewing the life cycle of building “from cradle to grave” through consideration of the selected materials, building structures and M&E systems through LCA tools.
Microclimate and Thermal Comfort Analysis
BMT has extensive capability in the assessment of building microclimates resulting from air movement, thermal environment and humidity.
Computational and physical modelling techniques are combined with world-class expertise and experience in fluid flow and heat transfer applications related to building physics applications in the built environment.
Acoustics Design
We conduct appraisals and provide practical acoustic design solutions to improve living and working environments as well as meet operational needs. Primarily supporting architects and contractors in this space, we have led a number of projects for rail stations, schools, residential complexes and more. Our scope of acoustics capabilities includes:
- Reverberation Assessment
- Airborne and Impact Noise Isolation
- Background Noise Assessment
- Vibration Control
- Noise Impact Assessment
CFD Modelling
Practical engineering quantities can be calculated such as flow rates, pressure drops, drag coefficients, heat transfer rates, combustion rates, mixing rates and many more. BMT uses leading edge CFD software and computing hardware to provide rapid answers to complex problems involving fluid flows.
