Environmental Management and Monitoring - offshore oil and gas

BMT conducted the management and monitoring (UKL-UPL) on behalf of Pertamina PHE Nunukan in order to enable the commencement of oil and gas exploration activities.

The Requirement

BMT was recruited by Pertamina to perform the Environmental Management and Environmental Monitoring (UKL-UPL), which is a series of guidelines for managing and monitoring the environmental impacts from a planned business activity in a relatively small scale.

This was required for the process of permit application and it was used in the decision making process during the exploration.

Our Approach

In order to complete an Environmental Management and Environmental Monitoring (UKL-UPL), BMT collected some data that will cover the three components of UKL-UPL, which consist of: physical chemisty, biological and socioeconomic culture & health.

  • The physical chemistry and biological components required sample taking from the location of activit, followed by lab analysis whereby samples were compared to the available parameters.
  • The socioeconomics culture and health required BMT to hold structured interviews, casual interviews as well as focussed group discussions with the community.

Outcomes and Benefits

BMT has successfully gained an environmental permit for Pertamina Nunukan. As an appreciation towards the success, Pertamina Nunukan gave their trust to BMT to manage the drill cutting at the same block.
