Environmental Monitoring and Consenting, Indonesia

BMT led the implementation of environmental monitoring plans to comply with the Indonesian government's environmental regulations and to improve PROPER (a local standard for oil and gas companies) performance ratings.

The Requirement

BMT was commissioned by Chevron to carry out preliminary site visits to all fields/facilities that are necessary in identifing hazards during fieldwork.

The operations included both onshore and offshore activity and were undertaken at the industry approved HSE standards.

Our Approach

Samples of the standard 20 environmental parameters as stipulated by the Government were taken and analysed in the laboratory.

Samples were gathered using BMT-owned high-tech tools, including a high volume sampler, impingner, noise meter, wind direction, humidity meter and anemometer.

BMT also set out to implement the environmental management and monitoring plans.

This activity was performed regularly for every six months until the contract ended.

A trend line was made over the samples collected over the past three years, in order to anticipate

the possibility of having an operation that violates quality standards and offer recommended actions to the customer as required.

Outcome and Benefits

The monitoring results have helped the customer to become aware of the quality standards of their operation.

During the monitoring, it was found that operations were satisfactory and did not violate quality standards. Chevron received the highest accreditation for three sites as a result of the work performed by BMT.
